The Downtown Troy Business Improvement District proudly commemorated the grand opening of O’Malley’s Oven (455 Fulton Street) with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 8. Attendees sampled cookies, tarts, and beignets following the ceremony attended by Mayor Patrick Madden, Deputy Mayor Chris Nolin, BID board members James Kehoe (Whiskey Pickle) and Dylan Turek (City of Troy Director of Economic Development), friends, family, and neighbors.

A staple vendor at the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market for six years, Melanie O’Malley is excited for what is possible with a permanent home in downtown Troy.  A Capital Region resident since 2003, O’Malley believes her baking is a form of artistic expression. After years of disappointment with the gluten-free options available for her family members with celiac disease, in 2013 she began producing delicious desserts herself that could be enjoyed by all.

“I never planned on having a retail storefront,” O’Malley said.  “But the opportunity to be right in the heart of downtown Troy was too good to pass up. To raise my family and operate my business in this vibrant, walkable community is a dream come true!”

“Melanie O’Malley is a true small business success story,” said Geoff Brault, Executive Director, Downtown Troy Business Improvement District. “She saw a need in the marketplace, leveraged her talents to meet that need, worked hard to get her product out there at farmer’s markets and festivals, and is now ready to expand her capabilities to serve even more people. O’Malley’s Oven is an awesome addition to our downtown.”

O’Malley’s Oven is a specialty bakery that marries classic dessert with contemporary taste. The Oven offers a wide variety of desserts that play with flavor and texture, as well as a line of savory hand pies and bake-at-home flour blends. O’Malley draws inspiration from her rural upbringing in Columbia County, as well as her bartending background, when baking new creations. She is particularly capable of meeting any gluten-free challenges. For more information, visit omalleysoven.com.
